A HUGE THANK YOU GOES OUT TO MRS. ADAMS

She lead us in a presentation surrounding the book Listen to the Wind. This book was about one man’s mission to bring education to the children of Pakistan.

Girls used maps to locate the country as well as learned the history behind this war torn nation and its effects on girls their own age.

Each girl was able to choose a Henna tattoo after learning about the significance of them in the Pakistani culture.

She also prepared pita, two types of hummus as well as pistachios, all foods from the area.
(Thank you Claire for the strawberries and Chips….. They went so well with the hummus. )

In addition: The girls will be donating a copy of Listen to the Wind to both Ames and Blythe school libraries in honor of Dr. Paul Roach, Mollies Uncle who is serving overseas

Junior Bridging 2011

All our girls are eligible to Bridge to Juniors.  We are asking for a $10 fee to cover the activity and Badge/patches.  Girls will receive their bridge patch, their Junior wings and their Junior GS Pin.  They will continue to wear their current WAGGS pin.
I am also collecting the uniform/books cost for those parents who would like me to pick them up. I will be accepting this fee till April 15th.  I will just need to know what size vest your girl will be wearing. The girls asked if we could do the sash this year and I told them that we do too many activities and their badges would never fit. They all laughed and agreed.

Please see the breakdown of the costs.
Junior Vest                                            $15.75
Junior Girl Scout Handbook                  $10.95
American Flag Patch Wavy                   $1.75
Girl Scout Council Identification Set       $4.00
Junior Insignia Cross grain Tab               $2.50

Used handbooks are available on ebay.  Recycle Reuse! Renew
No girl will be turned away due to her inability to pay. Please contact me.

Horseback Riding and Water park Recap~

Wow! Wow! Wow! What a great time, for both Moms and Girls!  Even though the rain put a kibosh to our Bon fire, I don’t think it was missed! I loved every aspect of this weekend~

Thank you to all our adventurous moms for making the trip and riding, I know your Brownies loved having you there. Not even the horse “apples” could put a damper on our experience or stop the girls from getting up close and personal to brush the horses. It was neat to hear all about proper care of the horses and how much work it was just to own a horse.  I know several moms were happy to hear that, it put a damper on the phrase “ I want a horse”

I bet if we asked the girls the name of “their” horse in a month from now they will not only tell you it but describe exactly what he or she looked like. “I want to do that again” seemed to be the phrase that I kept hearing after each girl got off their horse.

I think having the water park was the bonus to this trip. Couldn’t even drag them away for a Craft class!  All I have to say is our girls have Stamina…… no 8 -9 pm bedtime for our girls  UGH~

Thank you to all the moms who cooked and cleaned and made this trip so memorable!   Please click on the horse photos at the right to see the whole photo album.

Yours in Scouting,
Mrs. Winkler
