She lead us
in a presentation surrounding the book Listen
to the Wind. This book was about one man’s mission to bring education to
the children of Pakistan.
Girls used
maps to locate the country as well as learned the history behind this war torn
nation and its effects on girls their own age.
Each girl was able to choose a Henna tattoo after learning about the significance of them in the Pakistani culture.
She also
prepared pita, two types of hummus as well as pistachios, all foods from the
area.
(Thank you
Claire for the strawberries and Chips….. They went so well with the hummus. )
In addition: The girls will be donating a copy of Listen to the Wind to both Ames and Blythe school libraries in honor of Dr. Paul Roach, Mollies Uncle who is serving overseas
Another busy meeting..... We learned about the history of S.W.A.P.S. and made some for fellow girl Scouts in Georgia... Troop 22551 out of Conyers Georgia.

Postcards will
be written February 8th with the help of several of our Moms~
Look at the
attached map to see where we will be writing. Ask Mom or Dad to look them up on
the internet and see if you can find out a few interesting facts about the
places we will be writing.
Also start
thinking about what you want to include in your postcard. We will be breaking off into small groups and
each girl in the group will be required to send one postcard to one of the areas….
We must accept the fact that transport and communications will bring the world in close relations and the youth of the world should have standards and ideals in common. Juliette G. Low
Our
Membership has been accepted to participate in the 2011 Thinking Day Postcard
exchange
February 22, 2011 is World Thinking Day, girls participate in
activities, games, and projects with global themes to honor their sister Girl
Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries. World Thinking Day is part of the
WAGGGS Global Action Theme (GAT) based on the United Nation's Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs), which aim to improve the lives of the world's poorest
people. The theme for World Thinking Day 2011 is girls
worldwide say "Empowering girls will change our world."
World Thinking Day not only gives girls a chance to
celebrate international friendships, but is also a reminder that Girl Scouts of
the USA is part of a global community—one of nearly 150 countries with Girl
Guides and Girl Scouts. WAGGGS selected five countries of focus for World
Thinking Day 2011 to represent the five WAGGGS regions: Bolivia (Western Hemisphere), Cyprus(Europe), Democratic Republic of Congo (Africa), Nepal (Asia/Pacific),Yemen(Arab
Region).
Our
Brownies have the opportunity to exchange postcards with girl scouts just like
themselves around the world! This activity will complete our making connections
patch of our Journeys series.
During the
Holiday break I will be contacting the girls
to get an idea of what countries as well as states they would like to exchange
with.
Please
feel free to contact me via email with this information as well.
